Should we build custom or configure a packaged product?

Configure the commodity, build the differentiator. If your requirement is genuinely standard — general ledger, payroll calculation, email — buy it. If the process is how you compete, or the packaged options would force you to change a profitable practice, build it. Our discovery phase produces that recommendation explicitly, including the cases where the answer is "do not build this".

What happens if we want to move to another vendor?

You can. The code is in your repositories under your licence from day one, infrastructure is defined as code, decisions are recorded as ADRs, and we run a knowledge-transfer programme rather than guarding tribal knowledge. Client independence is a design goal, not a concession.

How do you handle fixed-price versus time-and-materials?

We fix the price of discovery and of well-bounded phases where scope is genuinely knowable. For evolving product work, time-and-materials with a capped budget and sprint-level scope control is more honest — fixed price on vague scope just moves the risk into change requests and quality.

Can you take over an existing codebase?

Yes. We start with a technical due-diligence review: architecture, dependency health, test coverage, security exposure and operational risk. You get a stabilisation plan and a modernisation roadmap with effort estimates before we commit to a delivery cadence.

How do you keep long-lived systems maintainable?

Dependency upgrade cadence in the sprint plan rather than deferred indefinitely, coverage thresholds enforced in CI, static analysis and security scanning on every pull request, architecture reviews each quarter, and a documented deprecation policy for internal APIs.
